In April 2020, For 3 Sisters purchased a 2002 Pierce fire engine; a fire engine that came with a vision - to transform into an iconic symbol of hope, strength, support, and outreach for breast cancer and healthy communities nationwide.

VICKY'S STORY
This is a beautiful story about two local heroes who served our community together on the frontlines, and who would later come together in their retirement, on a new mission, to ensure no one fights breast cancer alone.
Vicky's service began in 2002 in Bethesda, Maryland; a thriving urban center near the nation’s capital, home to many fabulous restaurants, retailers and arts venues. Assigned to Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Station 6, at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Bradley Boulevard, she loyally served as Engine 61 and Engine 706 on the frontlines of Bethesda, Montgomery County, and neighboring Washington, DC for 15 years. After being removed from the frontlines, and spending a few years in the reserve fleet, E61/E706 was retired from service.
In 2019, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services started preparations to auction off a fleet of retired fire apparatus. Five fire engines were included in the soon-to-be auctioned off apparatus - including E61/E706. WAIT! Could it be? Was it really true? THIS fire engine was going up for auction? You're probably wondering why this particular fire engine is such a big deal.
For 3 Sisters founder and Pink Fireman, Marshall Moneymaker, was a career fire fighter assigned to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Station 6 from 1999 - 2013. Marshall remembers the day, in 2002, when E61 arrived. She was beautiful. He, along with his co-workers, loaded her up with life saving equipment, and put her in service. Marshall would spend the next 11 years with E61/E706 before he retired on a back injury. She was retired from service a few years later. |
In September 2019, we started negotiating with Montgomery County to see about making For 3 Sisters E61/E706's new home. After six months of negotiations and conversations, an obscure procurement law stood in our way...but not for long. In April 2020, right about the time the world went into lockdown for COVID-19, she went to auction. With bated breath and a few prayers, we watched the auction timer count down - Shannon on her computer and Marshall on his.

We had lofty plans for E61/E706 and we were ready to hit the ground running , except, COVID-19 had other plans for us. Maryland was already in the midst of locking down and only essential businesses and services could stay open. So our grand plans would have to wait...for over a year. Then finally, as the light broke through the darkness, and restrictions began to lift, we continued our adventure in transforming this fire engine into the iconic pink fire truck you see today. Our friends at Mark's Equipment Service, Inc. - Frederick, MD worked their magic and got her MD inspection ready, and then off to Philadelphia we went to see the one and only Adam Blackman, at Apply, so she could make her magical transformation!
And transform her he did! Adam brought new life and purpose to this old girl in the most perfect way. On Saturday, June 5, 2021, on the eve of National Cancer Survivors Day, E61/E706 officially became Vicky - an iconic symbol of hope, strength, support, and outreach for breast cancer and healthy communities nationwide.
The very next day, on National Cancer Survivors Day, Vicky went to work. She made her first official appearance at the Anne Arundel Medical Center's Survivors Day Celebration, and she gave her first surprise "Celebration Ride" to a breast cancer survivor attending the event. In July, she appeared in front of nearly 20,000 people over the 4th of July holiday weekend as shouted her message loud and clear to the communities of Annapolis, Catonsville, and Havre de Grace!
So here we are, nearly 20 years later, after Marshall and Vicky first served together in the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service. They share a new purpose and a new mission together - ensuring no one fights breast cancer alone!
